For insurance defense firms

Practice management that speaks carrier

Coverage postures, reporting deadlines, billing guidelines, and e-billing platforms are not add-ons for panel counsel. They are the job. LexSense treats every one of them as first-class, designed around the way carrier work actually runs rather than bolted onto generic practice software.

The whole case posture on one page Workspace

Every insurance matter carries its coverage picture (limits, retention, reservation of rights) next to the litigation milestones, the evaluation, and a dated trail of every demand, offer, and grant of authority. A new associate opens the file and knows where the case stands in thirty seconds.

  • Coverage posture: limits, SIR, reservation of rights, coverage litigation
  • Evaluation & authority: exposure range, demand vs. offer, authority requested and granted, every change dated and kept
  • Carrier status reports on a cadence: set it once, and the handling attorney is nudged before each one comes due
  • Defense checklists keyed to the case’s own dates, answer through trial

E-billing scrubbed before it goes out E-billing

For the platforms your carriers use (CounselLink, Legal Tracker, TyMetrix 360, or their own portal), each client’s IDs, formats, and negotiated rates are set once and ride every invoice, sent once the carrier has enrolled you. Before anything goes out, a pre-submission scrub catches what reviewers reject: missing billing codes, rates above the agreed card, block billing, vague narratives.

  • Per-carrier profiles: platform, firm and client IDs, timekeeper registrations, set once
  • Negotiated rates by level, enforced before submission; specially-negotiated matters get their own exception rates
  • Industry-standard electronic invoices, addressed the way each platform expects, sent straight to the platform once the carrier has enrolled you
  • Every reduction recorded by line and reason, appealed on a deadline, and reconciled against what the carrier actually paid

Time that survives the guideline review Time & billing

Timers, court-standard task and activity codes on every entry, and AI-suggested entries from the day’s work in Word and email. Budgets per matter with one-shot alerts before a phase runs over. Partners approve time in one queue with the carrier’s guideline in view.

  • UTBMS task, activity, and expense codes required where the carrier requires them
  • Narrative checks for the phrases reviewers cut
  • Realization reporting that shows what each carrier actually pays, by timekeeper and by reduction reason

FAQ

Questions panel counsel ask us

Which e-billing platforms do you work with?

Any platform that accepts the standard electronic invoice formats, which covers CounselLink, Legal Tracker, TyMetrix 360, and most carrier-run portals. Each client profile records the platform, the IDs it assigned, and how it wants invoices delivered: direct upload once the carrier has enrolled you, secure file transfer, email, or a file you upload yourself.

Can it enforce a carrier’s billing guidelines?

The rate card, required codes, and narrative rules are stored on the carrier profile and applied to every matter under it. Entries that break them are flagged as they are made, and the pre-submission scrub blocks an invoice with hard violations until they are fixed.

What happens when a carrier reduces an invoice?

The reduction is recorded on the line it hit, with the carrier’s reason code. Appeals are tracked against the deadline, and the outcome and the remittance are reconciled to the invoice, so the balance is always what the carrier actually owes and realization reports show where the cuts come from.

How long does it take to move a defense firm over?

The plan runs two to four weeks. Carrier profiles and rate cards are set up in the first week, active matters migrate with their documents in the second and third, and a dry billing cycle runs before go-live. The full plan is on the implementation page.
